Under supervision by the Lead Equipment Engineer and Facility Manager, the Equipment Engineer is responsible for trouble-shooting, maintaining, repairing, acquiring, inspecting, testing, installing, and upgrading highly sophisticated, high value equipment for micro- and nano-fabrication in a state-of-the-art research facility. All pieces of equipment are located in the Nano3 micro/nano-fabrication cleanroom facility, a central campus recharge at the Qualcomm Institute.
Under supervision, coordinate the engineering aspects of the Nano3 facility, encompassing the design, development, fabrication, assembly, and examination of all systems and instrumentation. Provide professional engineering data, consultation and advice to faculty and researchers with relation to systems and instrumentation.
Act as liaison staff to Facilities Management, Design and Construction, EH&S, shop personnel and equipment vendors. Perform the documentation of analysis data for systems design, development, and evaluation purposes. Congregate and analyze information and devise reports with regards to plausibility engineering design criteria, and functionality of all instruments and systems.
Train, guide and direct graduate students, researchers, and others in the use of specific Nano3 systems. Specify and procure materials and components as needed. Execute engineering support and repair for all Nano3 systems.
