Engineering Consultant (Multiple Positions) (Stantec Consulting Services, Inc.; Bakersfield, CA): The Engineering consultant will apply theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical engineering to work primarily on oil and gas facility projects. S/he will utilize theories, techniques and technical engineering skills to perform conventional mechanical engineering assignments. Some assignments will involve Computer Assisted Engineering (CAE) and Computer Assisted Design (CAD) applications. S/he will prepare plot plans for the project showing all equipment and associated systems necessary for the unit being engineered for the client; design and plan equipment layout in an optimal manner to achieve minimum cost required for the unit to be installed; prepare process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and plot-plans for various projects including oil and gas production facilities, chemical process industries, etc.; use previous experience to design processes and units with limited information; develop piping plans and material take off (MTO) necessary for the project; prepare necessary pipeline list and tie-in list to assist the project cost estimate effort; review designs and check drawings for technical accuracy, and monitor progress of drawings against project schedules to ensure work is completed in a timely manner; and direct and coordinate design activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. S/he will perform piping static and dynamic stress analysis using Caesar II software. S/he will perform hydraulic simulations using engineering tools such as Fathom and SINET. S/he will develop, review, and approve equipment specifications and data sheets according to appropriate industry codes, such as API, ASTM, ASME, ANSI. S/he will participate in process hazards analysis and other safety evaluations. S/he will apply working knowledge of industry codes and standards and government regulations to prepare piping specifications required to design the project. S/he will assist higher level engineers in the technical interpretation of components by developing a 3D model for the unit/systems and applies quality & assurance procedures. S/he will develop “as built” drawings and models for existing process plants, develop models for piping flexibility and stress analysis, and design units and components involving a limited choice of alternative methods or procedures. S/he will prepare project design standards and specifications per client needs and confer with project personnel to provide technical design solutions to resolve problems. S/he will support field construction activities as needed to verify the intent of the project design. 40 hours per week, M-F (9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.).
5 years of work experience in mechanical design for oil and gas production facilities, OR Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus 3 years of work experience in mechanical design for oil and gas production facilities.
Of the required experience, must have 3 years of experience with the following: 1) Developing P&IDs and process units; (2) Caesar II Software (CAE) to perform piping stress analysis; (3) Preparing project mechanical design standards; (4) Preparing mechanical 3D models and making technical interpretation of mechanical components; and (5) Providing field construction support for mechanical designs.
