Create a flexible and dynamic elementary classroom environment and program favorable to learning and personal growth for highly gifted children; establish effective rapport with students, parents, and colleagues; nurture passions and talents of students; develop each child’s skills, attitudes and knowledge needed in a strong foundation for elementary grade education in accordance with each student’s ability; collaborate and partner with colleagues and administration to build, assess, and integrate curriculum across disciplines; foster student success and well-being beyond their classroom.
Essential Job Functions:
Utilize best instructional practices, methods, materials and technology
Cultivate and model a respectful, safe, creative, and invigorating classroom
Evaluate student work, using both formative and summative assessments, benchmarks and other assessments to guide instructional planning and promote student success
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers and assistant teachers throughout all grade levels on campus to strengthen community and student experience
Relate well to students, parents, and staff
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the academic, social, and emotional development of highly gifted children
Work effectively with Head of Lower School and other faculty members
Demonstrate effective use of classroom materials and technology to enhance learning
Strong understanding of independent school methods and ability to effectively integrate best practices of NAIS and CAIS
Effective use of Google suite and other required school technology. Technologically literate and comfortable with acquiring new technology skills.
Demonstrate a strong understanding and usage of multiple forms of assessment in informing and driving instruction
Demonstrates culturally competent skills in educational program design and delivery
Demonstrate effective and respectful management of classroom culture using social-emotional learning skills and strategies, such as Responsive Classroom
Demonstrate ability to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages; including a passion for teaching and working with students from all communities
Exhibit the qualities of an adult learner dedicated to their professional growth
Provide leadership and serve as a mentor
Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school
Exhibit a sense of humor and commitment, high ethical professional standards, equity perspective
Demonstrate excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated collegiality
Demonstrate excellent organization, time management and follow-through skills
Exhibit the ability to work as part of a team
Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university
Master’s degree in education preferred
3-5 years of successful teaching as a lead teacher
Independent school experience preferred
Experience with working with highly gifted children preferred
Experience with Reading and Writing Workshop, Responsive Classroom, and conceptual based math pedagogy preferred
Able to pass state and federal background checks
Clear TB and criminal background check upon hire

About Mirman School
Mirman School opened its doors to educate gifted children in 1962. Motivated by a deep love and concern for these children, Dr. and Mrs. Norman J. Mirman began the school with nine pioneering students in their West Los Angeles home. Today, with a newly expanded campus serving all dimensions of childhood, Mirman School is a thriving and diverse community home to 330 students. Mirman continues to distinguish itself as one of the few schools in the country devoted to the education of highly gifted children, particularly serving all dimensions of childhood — academic, artistic, kinesthetic, and more.

Mirman is made up of students and their families, a dedicated and passionate Parent Service League, and a Board of Trustees made up of community leaders. In the Lower School, lead teachers are supported by part-time Assistant Teachers, while Upper School teachers specialize in disciplines such as English, science, Latin, Mandarin, History, etc. Dynamic specialists in science, STEM, technology, math, art, music, choir, theatre and more round out the fabric of our faculty. Mirman is also home to a collegial and collaborative group of administrators who work to facilitate the ideal teaching and learning environment.
