The Department of Public Health at the University of California, Merced (https://publichealth.ucmerced.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Public Health. The Department’s mission is to promote and protect health in the San Joaquín Valley and the world through our research and the training of the next generation of public health leaders. The Public Health Department has had an approved MSPH and PhD in Public Health since 2017. The next stage in our growth includes the development and implementation of a stand-alone MPH program to meet the public health workforce needs in California’s Central Valley. Our current search is therefore broad, and we seek a colleague with demonstrated excellence in research in any substantive public health area and the skills to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the same. We are specifically interested in scholars with expertise in one or more of the following areas: infectious disease; global health; policy; implementation science; evaluation; and with a quantitative orientation.

Preferred candidates will: 1) have a strong record of research excellence as demonstrated via peer-reviewed publications in public health or interdisciplinary journals; 2) demonstrate evidence of the ability to teach public health coursework, particularly using student focused or student-centered approaches; and 3) demonstrate interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds. The successful candidate will be expected to advance a program of research, teach undergraduate courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers, and perform professional service to the department and institution appropriate to their career stage. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, professional activities, and service.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Public Health or related field by the anticipated start date.

Candidates with MSPH or MPH degrees in addition to a doctorate are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants for the Assistant Professor level should include a list of three references with their applications; letters of are not required at this time. Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and UC academic salary scales.
